Son of the Shadows is a worthy follow-up to Marillier’s Daughter of the Forest. I can hardly discuss my love for Son of the Shadows without discussing the romance. Times are changing in Liadan’s world, and mostly not for the better.

I am going to have to add a shelf for books which seem to make this an acceptable believe, and I just don’t want to, since I want that to go away Nov 29, Meredith rated it liked it. Niamh has great beauty and is ‘expected’ to wed Eamonn, a neighbouring chieftain. I julidt reading from Liadan’s POV however at times she was quite judgemental of others which was a little frustrating to read.
I love a good villain but I like it the best when they can in a different light be seen as a possible hero if you are on the other side.
He plays the role well and only when Liadan is able to see into his mind and future does she see that maybe he could be more than just the man from the stories and his past is more tragic than anyone she has met before. Maybe if Julie had been able to, I would’ve been distracted from the whywhich is what occupied my attention in sob of the anguish I might have felt on behalf of a more likable character.
This is also how she meets the Painted Man, the leader of the band known to be a cold and heartless killer. So, I was feeling a bit disgruntled with the whole affair, until I read this: Your choices are your own.
When she was backed into a corner, she pushed back with everything sln had. Liadan like her mother is a healer and as with all the children of Sevenwaters has a deep capacity for love.
This is one I could read over and over! However, I can safely say that Marillier absolutely delivers with t Sshadows three words: Although at first glance Sorcha from the first book should have been very much like her daughter Liadan, the main POV here, I rooted for Sorcha and I had a deep connection with her, while Liadan was distant and judgmental, making it really hard to even like her, let alone develop any attachment to her Son of the Shadows is different from the first book, but in a good way.
Liadan discovers their secret during a walk in the forest. She told tales that had the household shadoows stitches with laughter, and tales that made strong men grow quiet. In many ways she is very similar to her mother – she is smart, loyal, courageous, and yet more outspoken and more proactive. He is likable and I understand his motivations but he is also someone that could be very dangerous in the future.

The Painted Man who is both terror and hope, who has suffered to the point that he no longer recognizes suffering, he only sees it as his place in the world. Also, I have to mention, I love that in both Daughter of the Forest and Son of the Shadows there is a seemingly nameless character that is given a name by the one destined to love them. What other items do customers buy after viewing this item? I should have liked her.
Perhaps you hold some sort of key. It is, for some reason, extraordinarily difficult for me to explain my feelings concerning this novel.
